Wined & Dined with Farm to Fit

Posted on

Whether or not a delicious red wine at the end of the day has any prominent benefits to our health, is still up for debate. However, many different studies have shown that consuming 3oz-6oz of red wine per day can have tons of benefits!

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is considered to be the healthiest wine in the red family. The grapes are lower in sugar, and therefore the wine is less alcoholic than other red wines. Lucky for us, Oregon, and specifically Willamette Valley, has some of the finest bottles of Pinot Noir in the world thanks to our cool climates that are perfect for growing finicky grapes. (We never thought we would be so thankful for cooler weather!)

If you are looking for the perfect dinner pairing to go with your glass of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, we suggest our Blueberry Balsamic Pork Tenderloin. Pinot Noirs are extremely versatile, but pair exceedingly well with fruity flavors making this pairing the perfect spring dish!

Merlot

Merlot tends to be a more medium bodied red, and is the second most popular wine grape in the world. Washington is known for their less sweet, fruitier Merlots with notes of ripe black cherry, fresh blackberry, minty, and even subtle baking spice. If you’re in Washington, check out Walla Walla. If you are in Oregon, check out the Columbia Valley.

Merlots tend to pair well with roasted vegetables, so with your next glass consider pairing it with our Baked Sheet Pan Ratatouille. Enjoy!

Cabernet Sauvignon

Last, but certainly not least – one our favorite full-bodied red, is a Cabernet Sauvignon. Filled with fruit-forward flavors as well as chocolate and dried herbs, a good Cabernet pairs well with nearly all red meat. While some of the best Cabs in the world can be found just south of the PNW in Napa Valley, California, more locally you’ll find terrific Cabernets in Columbia Valley, Rogue Valley, and Snake River Valley, Oregon.

Over the next few weeks and throughout the summer, we will be highlighting local wines and beers, shaking up some of our favorite cocktails, and recommending delicious beverage pairings to go with our Farm to Fit meals.
