Okay, so admittedly we like a lot of stuff. But there are a few things that we really love, as well. One of them is Memorial Day weekend. Because, well, it’s Memorial Day weekend. You know, three days of relaxation and good company, better food and taking the time to appreciate it all. (It is a day of remembrance, after all.) The other thing we love, that just happens to go very well with this holiday, is our local farms with which we partner for the best produce in any season.
If you’re looking for a fun and fresh way to spend your long weekend, we highly recommend taking the trip to Gathering Together Farm, just south of Philomath, Oregon. With fields of 1-5 acre parcels that hug Mary’s River, Gather Together has been an enterprise in certified organic vegetable and fruit production since 1987. Altogether they tend more than 50 acres and employ more than 100 people at the height of the summer. The farm is owned by husband and wife duo John Eveland and Sally Brewer, a team dynamic we’re unbiasedly in full support of ;). We especially love the diversity that Gathering Together offers; Each year they sell more than 50 different types of vegetables and 300 unique varieties.
In 2003 they opened their Farm Stand, which serves Italian-influenced Northwest cuisine for lunch and dinner, as well as breakfast on Saturdays. If that’s not enticing enough, you can also enjoy their Community Supported Agriculture or pick up some veggies at one of the 9 Farmers Markets they attend, including markets at PSU, Shemanski Park and Beaverton Farmers Markets.
