    Farm to Fit’s 5th Birthday:

    image1

Proud to Be Leading the Way for Local “Farm to Home” Healthy Eating

Today, is Farm to Fit’s 5th Birthday!

As a small business, we appreciate how hard it is to launch a start-up and we are so proud of how far we’ve come in this community.

Because of superior customer service and a growing demand for fresh, healthy, gourmet, local, portioned, meal delivery in the Pacific Northwest, Farm to Fit has grown at 100 percent every year. We’re thrilled to be a part of the “farm to table” community and especially grateful for our relationships with local farmers, suppliers and purveyors.

Back on November 1, 2011, Farm to Fit owners, G. Scott Brown and Dre Slaman made their first Farm to Fit meal delivery to 7 customers. They were working out of a 500-square-foot shared kitchen with one chef. Aside from the actual cooking, Brown and Slaman did everything else; prepping, taking orders, deliveries, washing dishes, marketing, connecting with farmers and suppliers . . . even taking out the trash each day!

This year, Farm to Fit moved into a 3,600-square-foot, custom commercial kitchen. And, today, we have a staff of 18 employees: 1 executive chef, 1 sous chef, 4 cooks, 1 prep person, 8 packagers and delivery drivers, 1 customer specialist , and 2 office managers.

We now serve 275 clients each week.  Our new kitchen in Northeast Portland gives us the ability to accommodate even more Pacific Northwest customers — we’re now delivering all the way down to Salem.  In 2016, we also launched a successful Vegetarian Menu and gave our clients the opportunity to manage their meal selections with our popular Signature Dish Menu.

Farm to Fit continues it’s active role in our Portland community. Each week, Urban Gleaners collects our edible, surplus food that would otherwise be thrown away. The non-profit redistributes the food to agencies feeding families and children. We also have a relationship with Care Oregon,  supporting their Food Rx program and their effort to use nutrition as a tool to speed up recovery for patients throughout the city. We love to donate meals to local schools and non-profits who make Portland great.

Keep a look out for even more new and exciting things from Farm To Fit!  We are doing exactly what we set out to do – creating a convenient way to eat healthy, always.

We’ve Moved and It’s Better Than Ever!

By Dre Slaman and G. Scott Brown, Co-Owners

We’ve been busy these last nine months… We have created our perfect kitchen and we couldn’t be more excited!

Our new location in Northeast Portland started as an old warehouse filled with used Volvo parts.  After months of  meticulous design, permitting, and pre-construction hullaballoo, we finally broke ground on February 1st!   We have more than doubled our space in our new 3600 sq’ kitchen that features 3 huge walk ins, 36 feet of hood space, and a ton of brand new equipment.

Our new digs not only mean lots of shiny new stuff, but allows us to continue to serve you the best product possible, expand our delivery area even further, and add additional offerings on to our menu (snacks and desserts, anyone?)

We are ecstatic to finally be moved in and hope you come see us soon!  You can find us at 5411 NE Portland Highway, Portland, OR 97218.  Our phone number and email is the same:  info@farmtofit.com 503-688-9248

    It’s Our 4 yr. Birthday!

    by Rachael Lamb

November 1st marks four successful years of providing Portland with healthy, delicious, and convenient meals! Being a part of our community in this way has been an amazing journey thus far, with its conceivable challenges and unforeseen rewards. In the past year alone, we have grown considerably, (even almost out of our brand new kitchen!). We have doubled our sales every year since we opened and just this month have hired even more kitchen and packaging staff to help bring Farm to Fit to your door! We’ve spent this year focused on giving back too. We have donated meals, weekly, to kids who don’t have food for school lunches, food insecure adults throughout the city in need of meals and medical care, and even sponsored a dinner for instructors teaching girls and boys about violence prevention. We are humbled to be part of this community and We are so grateful to YOU, our loyal customers – for all of this would never been possible without your support!

In the coming year we are looking forward to another move, (this time to a GIANT kitchen!) in order to accommodate even more Portlanders, and those living beyond the city limits. With the plan of expanding our delivery parameters, launching a vegetarian menu, and giving our clients the opportunity to manage their own schedules and meal selections with our brand new app, we will be that much closer to our original goal of creating an easy way to always eat well.

Thank you all for joining us in this journey!

    Meet Your Farmer: Charlie Harris

    Flamingo Ridge Organic Farm Truck

I arrived at Flamingo Ridge Organic Farm a few minutes late for my meeting with owner Charlie Harris, as my journey out to Gaston, OR had me slowing to a roll at every idyllic ranch, winery, and overlook.  So when I arrived, I found Charlie on his flip phone doing business. He told me to give him a second while he made things right with a client.  I heard him apologize for the miscommunication and insisted they take a new shipment free of charge tomorrow.  Later he told me that he doesn’t do “iPhones, computers, internet, etc.’ for his business transactions.  He insists on “hearing the other person’s voice” and keeps things simple with a couple of huge dry erase boards.  I immediately got the sense that Charlie was just an all-around good guy. 7 Tips to Beat the Heat at Bedtime

    by Rachael Lamb

What a record breaking summer here in the northwest! Though we’ve had a bit of a break this past week, GEAR UP for another spell of high 90 and 100 degree days – starting tomorrow!  Even though us Portlandians go a good chunk of the year without sun, heat like this is too much for most of us.  Especially when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.  It can be frustratingly impossible to sleep on nights that have barely started to cool down by 9:00 pm.  And when heat comes in week-long waves, lack of sleep can really start to take a toll on balance and health. So, in preparation for this upcoming week/weekend check out these 7 tips to beat the heat at bedtime!

    Spring Hikes Near Portland

    by Rachael Lamb

The rain has finally started to slow and it is time, once again, to enjoy the product of all those wet, grey sky-ed days:  Green EVERYTHING. Wildflowers.  Rushing streams.  Cool, fresh air.  What better way to spend some free time than out exploring the beautiful northwest (or as my Oregon license plate proclaims, the “Pacific Wonderland”)!  Not only is nature a wonder to marvel at, spending time outdoors is scientifically proven to release stress, and improve mood.  It boosts our Vitamin D levels (essential to our immune systems), promotes eye health, is good for the lungs, improves sleep – the list goes on and on.  Even a light walk has immense health benefits.  Here are a few spring hikes in the Portland area worth checking out this season! The Mighty Asparagus – Veggie of the Month!

    by Rachael Lamb

    Asparagus

April is the month for Asparagus.  It’s bright-green shooting stalk is the epitome of Spring.  We’ve spent the past few winter months winding down, conserving energy in preparation for the new birth and regeneration that this season brings us.  Many vegetables start to make an appearance about now (onions, leeks, mushrooms, garlic, etc.) – but The Mighty Asparagus is King (or Queen – but we’ll get to that later).
